RCB end their IPL mission with a win: Skipper Virat Kohli’s half-century helped Royal Challengers Bangalore to finally break their losing streak to register a 10-run victory over Delhi Daredevils in the final league match of the ongoing season of Indian Premier League (IPL).
Having been elected to bat first at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi, RCB’s West Indian recruit Chris Gayle gave them a solid start with a 38-ball 48 runs knock, hitting three fours and the same number of sixes. Gayle and Virat Kohli added 66 runs together for the second wicket stand before Gayle went back to the pavilion in the first ball of the fourteenth over.
Kohli was the top scorer in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s batting innings as he scored 58 with later hitting which included three boundaries and three over boundaries.
Chasing a target of 162, Delhi Daredevils had a poor start after losing their young dashing opener Sanju Samson before scoring any run in the second delivery of the very first over. Then the responsibility of creating the base fell on Shreyas Iyer who scored 32 and Karun Nair who contributed with 26 runs in their 40-run stand.
But some quick wickets after the eleventh overtook the match away from Delhi Daredevils. Rishab Pant was the top scorer of Delhi innings with a blistering 45 off 34 balls, hitting three fours and two sixes.
For RCB, Pawan Negi picked up 3/10 while Harshal Patel snapped up 3/43.
